Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born on August 8, 1989, in Paris. In her early years she was enrolled in at the Dragon School in Oxfordshire. Emma was only six when she made the decision to be an actor. She trained for several years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part time theatre school in Oxford where she was taught acting as well as singing. In a school play and an Stagecoach show, she was her role as lead actress at 10, and acted. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the movie version of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was first cast in 1999. Emma was discovered by agents via their Oxford teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that following eight auditions Emma and Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's first film on the screen came in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which was released in 2001. The highest-grossing movie of 2001, the film set records for its opening day revenue as well as its opening weekend earnings. Reviewers were awed by the movie and its performances. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her performance. Emma was later awarded five prizes for her performance in the movie.
