Maggie Grace (born Margaret Grace Denig September 21 1983) is an American actress best recognized for her performances in the roles of Shannon Rutherford on the ABC television show Lost as well as Kim Mills in the Taken trilogy. Her parents had divorced and they moved together with their mother in Los Angeles. The year 2001 was a difficult one for her, but despite finances she managed to secure her first big part in the web-based video series Rachel's Room as the principal character. The film for television Murder in Greenwich, in which she played a 15-year-old Martha Moxley earned her the nomination for a Young Artist Award. In 2004, Grace was chosen to play Shannon Rutherford in the television show Lost where she was the main character for the initial two seasons, and was awarded an Screen Actors Guild Award shared with the ensemble cast. Grace left the television series in the year 2005, to take on a more significant role in films, having appeared alongside Tom Welling as Kim Mills in the film Taken. She has appeared in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club both in 2007 as well as in Taken opposite Liam Neeson in 2008 as Kim Mills. As a part of the Gyllenhaal Family, she's the younger sister to the actor Jake Gyllenhaal. Her career began as a teenager with small parts in a few films directed by her father. She also worked with her brother on the 2001 cult film Donnie Darko. Later, she was in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (both 2002) as well as Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal has received critical praise for her lead performances in Secretary (2002 the erotic romance drama) and Sherrybaby (606) Both of which earned the actress Golden Globe Award nods. Following several commercially-successful films, including World Trade Center in 2006 she gained greater recognition for her role as Rachel Dawes (the superhero) in The Dark Knight (2007). The film was nominated in the Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress due to her part on the film Crazy Heart, (2009). She subsequently starred in the comedies and dramas: Nanny McPhee as well as the Big Bang (2010) Hysteria (2011) and Will Not Back Down (2012). Her other roles include a Secret Service agent in the action-thriller White House Down (2013) and a musician in Frank (2014) and her role as the lead in the film The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). Gyllenhaal's first film as a filmmaker and writer came in 2021 when she wrote The Lost Daughter, a psycho-drama for which she received an award at the Venice International Film Festival Best Screenplay Award. The film also won an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
